A dental emergency has a way of arriving at the worst possible time. Whether it’s a toothache that kept you up all night, a tooth that cracked mid-meal, or a child who’s had an accident, the last thing you want is to be told the next available appointment is in three weeks.
Toothsavers keeps emergency appointments available at both our Campbelltown and Mount Annan locations so that when something urgent comes up, you have somewhere to turn. Call us now or book online, and we’ll get you in as quickly as we can.
Our dentists have managed dental emergencies across this community for over 10 years, from acute toothache and abscesses to chipped teeth, lost fillings, and dental trauma. We use OPG panoramic X-rays, CBCT imaging, and intraoral cameras to assess what’s happening accurately, so your care is never guesswork.
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
It’s a fair question. Some things feel urgent but can wait a day or two. Others need attention right away. Here’s a rough guide.
See us urgently if you have:
- Severe or worsening toothache
- Swelling around a tooth, gum, or jaw
- A knocked-out or partially dislodged tooth
- A tooth that is cracked or broken with sharp edges or pain
- Signs of a dental abscess (swelling, fever, or a bad taste in your mouth)
- Significant bleeding that isn’t stopping
Can typically wait a short while:
- A lost filling with no pain
- A chipped tooth with no sensitivity
- A crown that has come off without discomfort
If you’re unsure, call us. Our team can help you work out how urgently you need to be seen and give you guidance in the meantime.
What to Do Right Now
While you’re waiting to be seen, there are a few things that may help manage discomfort. Over-the-counter pain relief (following the instructions on the packet) can take the edge off a toothache. If a tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown rather than the root, rinse it gently with milk or saline if possible, and get to us immediately. Time matters in that situation.
For swelling, a cold compress on the outside of the face may provide some temporary relief. Avoid hot foods and drinks, and try not to put pressure on the affected area.
Please don’t leave a dental emergency untreated for too long. What starts as a manageable problem can escalate quickly, particularly in the case of an abscess. Getting seen early almost always means a simpler, less involved path forward.
How Emergency Appointments Work at Toothsavers
When you call for an emergency appointment, we’ll ask a few quick questions to understand what’s happening. This helps us prepare and ensure we have what we need ready for your visit. We aim to see emergency patients as promptly as possible, and we’ll give you an honest estimate of when we can get you in.
When you arrive, we’ll assess your situation thoroughly, including diagnostic imaging where needed, before recommending any treatment. We’ll explain exactly what we find and what your options are, and we’ll take your preferences into account throughout.
Costs will be discussed with you before any treatment begins. For patients with private health insurance, we’ll check your cover on the spot using HICAPS. We also offer flexible payment options through Humm, Afterpay, and ZipMoney if needed. For a full overview of our pricing, download our price guide from the Toothsavers website.
