Why Consider Teeth Whitening?
Have you noticed your teeth have changed colour over the past few years? Stained and discoloured teeth can be prematurely ageing and teeth whitening can be a good way to deal with this problem.
Teeth whitening is one of our most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments as it is fast and affordable and we will ensure it this procedure is completely safe. If you want to whiten quickly, opt for our in chair whitening treatment or if you prefer to whiten more slowly or perhaps have very sensitive teeth, you may want to choose our customised whitening kits that can be used in the privacy and comfort of your own home.
What Is a Custom-Made Whitening Kit?
With a custom-made whitening kit, we will supply whitening trays that are specially made to fit tightly over your teeth, ensuring the whitening gel cannot leak out. You will be shown how much whitening gel to use each time and the trays can be left in for several hours each day or even overnight. The nice thing about having a home whitening kit is that we can vary the strength of the whitening gel which can be great if you have particularly sensitive teeth and will find it more comfortable to whiten slowly. You’ll also be able to reuse the whitening trays at a later stage if you want to top up the results.
Why Is It Important to Have a Check-Up before Whitening?
Whichever method you choose, our dentist will want to check your teeth are strong and healthy beforehand as any cavities or signs of other dental diseases will need to be treated prior to whitening. This checkup is also an opportunity for our dentist to assess how well whitening will work for you as everybody’s teeth react slightly differently. The effects can depend on the type of staining and the natural colour of your teeth. If you have any porcelain crowns or veneers, or any areas that have been bonded with composite resin then these will not change color during this treatment. This does mean that you may need to budget for replacing these restorations once you have finished whitening your teeth.
What Is the Procedure for an in-Chair Whitening Treatment?
With this procedure, we will protect your gums and lips before painting your teeth with whitening gel. The gel is activated with a special laser as this helps it to penetrate your teeth more easily and more quickly. During a one-hour treatment, this gel may be wiped off and reapplied several times to help achieve the desired effects. You should see a considerable difference at the end of treatment.
