What is General Dentistry?
General dentistry encompasses routine treatments designed to help pick up any problems with your teeth and gums and to repair any damage to your teeth. Our general dentistry treatments include:
Regular dental examinations are extremely important and we generally suggest people visit Tooth Savers at six monthly intervals. This ensures any small problems can be picked up before they can become larger and much more significant. At this stage treatment is likely to be less invasive and less expensive and there is a better chance that we can save more of your tooth. Our non-surgical root canal treatments are excellent at helping to save badly infected teeth. Before root canal therapy was invented there wouldn’t have been any other option but to remove an infected tooth. We do only remove teeth as a last resort but sometimes they may be too badly damaged to save or in the case of wisdom teeth will be unable to erupt properly.
If you have lost teeth, dentures are one way to replace them. They are a popular and cost-effective way to replace missing teeth and we can supply both partial and full dentures using the very latest materials. Nowadays modern denture teeth can look very lifelike and our dental laboratory takes a great deal of time and care to make sure our dentures are individually designed for each patient.
What Happens If My Dentist Find Something Wrong?
If we do find something wrong and which we think requires treatment, as well as dental x-rays, we may also take images of the problem using our intraoral camera. After your examination is completed, we will use these images to explain how we think it is best treated. We will discuss all the available options with you and you’ll receive a written treatment plan showing the costs and time needed to complete the treatment.
Regular Oral Cancer Screenings
Part of your regular examinations will include a screening for oral cancer. During this screening we will carefully examine all the tissues in your mouth and this includes your lips, the insides of your cheeks, the roof and floor of your mouth and your tongue. We are looking for any changes to the colour and texture of these tissues or any unexplained lumps and bumps or sore spots that don’t seem to be healing properly. Oral cancer screenings are very important as often the early signs of this disease are easily ignored and as a result this disease is often diagnosed during its later stages. By checking for early signs, we can make sure that anything suspicious is more fully examined. It’s unlikely to be oral cancer but we want to do everything possible to keep you healthy.
